Safety

SafetyAllied Waste's safety record is the best in our industry and continues to improve.  We believe our commitment to training and better working conditions has a lot to do with this success.  Our drivers all are licensed according to strict Department of Transportation requirements and operate within those rules.

All employees receive new-hire orientation.  Administration, helpers, and sales staff receive one full day of training.  Maintenance receives two full days of classroom training.  Drivers receive three days of classroom training, including defensive driving specifically oriented to truck operations, five days in-cab training with a driver trainer as well as weekly observations by supervisors for the first 12 weeks of operation.  Allied Waste has a training calendar that all locations use to assure all required federal, state, and local training is complete.

Seat belts are required for all personnel when they are in a vehicle and the vehicle is moving.  Newer trucks are front loading which gives the driver better visibility and eliminates blind spots.  We use smaller trucks in residential neighborhoods which can be operated by one man.  The front-loading equipment is safer for us because our people are off the street and operating close to the vehicle at all times.  Allied Waste does pre-employment and random drug testing of all employees.  Allied Waste has a very structured process on the procedures following any accident or injury.

Should safety infractions occur, Allied Waste uses progressive discipline to help all employees understand what is required of their position.  Retraining is provided as needed to assist our employees in achieving our safety goals.
